Asphalt paving in Macomb County has to hold up through freeze-thaw winters. Delpres Services is an asphalt contractor based in Harrison Township, and we pave across Metro Detroit. We lay new asphalt driveways, parking lots, private roads and cart paths. Older asphalt can often be patched or resurfaced, and we stripe parking lots too.
Every job starts with the ground under the asphalt. When a site needs digging or grading first, that is part of our excavation and site work. Weighing asphalt against concrete? We pour concrete driveways as well, so we can quote both.
Tell us about the septic, sewer, excavation or concrete work and where it is. We look at the job and put a free estimate in writing.
Every new asphalt driveway starts with a call to MISS DIG 811. Michigan law counts digging and grading as excavation and calls for at least three business days of notice. Michigan's driveway law also requires the road agency's permit for a new driveway onto a county road or state highway. We point you to the office that issues it.
On a lot with a septic system, the Macomb County Health Department says not to put a driveway over it. It also warns against driving heavy vehicles over the drain field. We plan the driveway and our equipment routes around both. When a lot needs a new system, we handle septic system installation too.
The sub-base carries the load. We dig out soft ground and build the sub-base in compacted lifts. The grade slopes so water runs off the asphalt and away from the house. Then we lay hot asphalt with a paver and roll it tight before it cools.
Potholes start with water. MDOT explains that a pothole forms when water gets through the surface into the gravel beneath it. When that water freezes, it expands and pushes the pavement up. When the ground thaws, traffic pushes the pavement back down and breaks it.
Asphalt repair often starts with a patch. We cut out the damaged asphalt and firm up the base under it. Then we fill the hole with new asphalt and compact it. A patch makes sense when the rest of the surface is still in good shape.
Resurfacing lays a new layer of asphalt over the old one. It works when the base is still solid and the damage sits in the surface. MDOT's glossary says alligator cracking, a pattern like chicken wire, means the surface layer has failed under repeated traffic. Where the base has failed too, the old asphalt comes out and we rebuild from the ground up.
A parking lot carries far more traffic than a driveway, and often heavier trucks. In Macomb Township, the engineering standards call for a sub-base at least 6 inches thick under every parking lot. The township engineer approves each parking lot layout in writing. Other communities set their own rules, and we build to the approved plan.
Water has to leave a big lot fast. The same standards call for underdrains at low point catch basins and a 6 inch concrete curb around the lot. We tie the lot into catch basins and storm drains, and our commercial concrete work covers the curbs. Private roads and cart paths get the same compacted base and drainage plan.
Line striping comes last. In Macomb Township, a parking area for three or more cars needs painted stripes at least 3 inches wide. The stripes sit at least 10 feet apart, center to center. We stripe new lots and restripe faded ones.

We visit the site and check the access and the ground. The estimate comes to you in writing.
We call MISS DIG 811 for utility locates before any digging. On septic jobs, we line up our work with the county's soil evaluation and inspections.
We dig to spec with equipment sized to the site. Then the work goes in to the approved plan or the agreed scope.
After the required tests and inspections, we backfill and restore what we dug up. Lawns get topsoil and seed or sod, and paved areas get new concrete or asphalt.
