Septic System Repair and Drain Field Repair in Macomb County, MI

Septic System Repair · Macomb County, MI

Repairs from the septic tank out to the drain field

Septic system repair starts with the trouble you can see. Toilets back up and drains run slow, or the ground over the drain field turns wet and spongy. A significant portion of Macomb County relies on septic systems, the county health department says. Delpres Services is based in Harrison Township and repairs failing septic systems across the county.

We find the part that failed and repair that part. It might be a baffle, a lid, a broken pipe, the tank or the drain field itself. When the whole system has failed, the fix is a new system, and that is our septic system installation work. We look at the system on site and put a free estimate in writing.

What We Handle

  • Inlet and outlet baffle repair inside the septic tank
  • Risers that bring the tank openings up to the surface, topped with new lids
  • Septic tank replacement when the tank itself has cracked or collapsed
  • Pipe repairs from the house to the tank and from the tank to the drain field
  • Drain field repair for crushed lines and pipes packed with roots
  • Drain field replacement when the old field can no longer take water
  • Mini-excavators for tight yards and full-size equipment for deep digs
  • Backfill with compaction in lifts, then topsoil and seed or sod over the dig

How do you know your septic system needs repair?

The Macomb County Health Department lists the warning signs in its septic pamphlet. Watch for odors and surfacing sewage, or wet spots and extra green grass over the drain field. Backups in the house and gurgling pipes are signs too.

The EPA says an overloaded drain field can flood and push sewage up to the ground surface. The same flooding can back sewage up into toilets and sinks. So a wet yard and a backed-up toilet can share one cause.

A single slow sink can be a simple clog, which is a plumber's call. Several slow fixtures and a wet yard often point to the tank or the field. The pamphlet also says to keep downspouts and sump pumps off the system. Our yard drainage work can carry that water away from the field.

Septic tank repair and septic tank replacement

The EPA says compartments and a T-shaped outlet keep sludge and scum inside the tank. When the outlet tee or baffle breaks, solids can flow out and clog the drain field. We replace broken inlet and outlet baffles.

Risers bring the tank openings up to the surface, so a pumping company can open the lids without digging. Oakland County's sanitary code calls for risers at least 24 inches across, with covers at or above final grade. We set risers and replace cracked or missing lids.

A cracked or collapsed tank calls for septic tank replacement. When the drain field still works, we set a new tank and tie it into the existing lines. A pumping company empties the old tank before the work starts.

Drain field repair and replacement in Macomb County

Some drain field problems sit in one spot. A heavy vehicle can crush a line, and roots can pack a pipe shut. The county pamphlet warns against heavy vehicles and trees over the field. We dig to the damage and replace that run of pipe.

Other fields fail as a whole when solids from the tank clog the gravel trenches. The same pamphlet says failing systems are often impossible to repair and must be replaced. Then the answer is drain field replacement, or a whole new system when the tank has failed too.

Macomb County and Oakland County both plan new systems with a reserve area for a future replacement field. If your lot has one, a new drain field may fit there. In Oakland County, a public sewer within 200 feet of the house can change the plan. The health officer may require a sewer line connection instead.

FAQ

Septic System Repair Questions, Answered

Common questions about septic system repair around Macomb County and the rest of Metro Detroit. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (877) 633-5773

What does septic system repair cost?
The price turns on which part failed and how much digging the fix takes. A county permit fee and lawn or driveway restoration can add to it. Call (877) 633-5773, and we will put a free estimate in writing. Our guide to septic system costs in Michigan covers market numbers for new and replacement systems.
Do you pump septic tanks?
No. Pumping is a job for a septic pumping company. The Macomb County Health Department says to pump the tank every 3 to 5 years, based on use. When the pumping company finds a broken baffle or a cracked lid, that repair is ours.
Do I need a permit to repair a septic system?
The Macomb County Health Department issues septic permits, and its fee schedule lists a separate permit for repairs. In Oakland Township and the rest of Oakland County, repairs need a permit from the Oakland County Health Division. Minor repairs, such as adding access risers, are the exception there. In St. Clair County, a sewage permit from the St. Clair County Health Department comes before any septic repair.
Can you replace the drain field and keep my tank?
Yes, when the tank is sound and the health department agrees. Oakland County's sanitary code lets an older tank stay if the health officer finds it still does its job. When the tank has failed too, the job becomes a whole new system.
My septic system failed a home-sale evaluation. What now?
Macomb County regulation requires a septic evaluation before closing on a home that relies on a septic system. The county or a private evaluator does that evaluation, and the report says what failed. Share the report with us, and we will put a free estimate for the repairs in writing.
What happens to my yard during a septic repair?
We call MISS DIG 811 for utility locates before we dig. Mini-excavators fit tight backyards, and we backfill with compaction in lifts. Then we restore the lawn with topsoil and seed or sod, and replace any concrete or asphalt we cut.
