Inground Pool Installation in Macomb County, MI

Inground Pools · Macomb County, MI

Custom gunite pools, from excavation to water

Inground pool installation with Delpres Services covers the whole build, from the first sketch to the day the pool fills. As a pool builder, we design custom gunite and shotcrete pools for homes across Macomb County and Metro Detroit. Our crew digs the pool. We handle the shell, coping, tile, plaster and deck, and a licensed electrician does the wiring.

Delpres is a pool contractor based in Harrison Township, and excavation and concrete are also our trades. We build pools for homeowners in Chesterfield Township, Shelby Township, Washington Township and across Metro Detroit. An outdoor kitchen and patio can be part of the same build. Call (877) 633-5773 for a free written estimate.

How a gunite pool gets built, from design to start-up

Every pool starts with a design, and we settle the shape, size, depth and finish with you. The building department that covers your address reviews the plan and issues the pool permit. Before the dig, we call MISS DIG 811 so the utilities can mark their buried lines. Our crew then handles the excavation and site work, soil disposal included.

Engineered steel reinforcement goes into the hole, and the gunite or shotcrete shell is sprayed over it. The plumbing rough-in happens at this stage, and a licensed electrician does the electrical rough-in. All of it is inspected before backfill. The trade association for sprayed concrete recommends at least 7 days of curing to help control shrinkage.

Coping and waterline tile go on once the shell has cured, and the deck follows. The interior gets white plaster or a pebble and aggregate finish. The last step is equipment and start-up, where the filter, pump, heater and sanitizer are installed and tested. We walk you through running the pool before we leave.

What rules apply to an inground pool in Macomb County?

Pool rules come from the township or city where the pool goes, so the details vary by address. Macomb Township's pool handout shows what one building department asks for. It requires a building permit and an electrical permit for any pool holding 24 inches or more of water. A pool heater adds a mechanical permit.

The same handout wants the pool fully enclosed by a barrier at least 4 feet high. The fence takes a separate permit. Gates swing away from the pool and close and lock on their own, with the latch 54 inches above grade. Doors with direct access to the pool need an alarm that sounds when they open.

Macomb Township also wants at least 10 feet between the water's edge and the house. On a lot with a septic system, the pool and its deck stay off the tank and the drain field. Oakland County's sanitary code sets a 10-foot gap from both. Your local building department and the county health department have the final word for your lot.

Pool finishes and decks for Michigan's freeze-thaw winters

White plaster is the standard interior finish, and pebble and aggregate finishes are the other choice. Coping caps the top of the pool wall, with bullnose and cantilever profiles to pick from. Custom coping is an option too.

Coping and waterline tile go through Michigan's freeze-thaw cycles every winter. We install waterline tile with those cycles in mind. Tile repair and coping replacement are also part of our pool renovation work.

We build pool decks in concrete or pavers, pitched for drainage and finished to be slip-resistant. Stamped concrete pool decks carry a stone or slate pattern pressed into the surface. Concrete flatwork is one of our main trades, and a concrete deck is poured as part of the pool build.

After the required tests and inspections, we backfill and restore what we dug up. Lawns get topsoil and seed or sod, and paved areas get new concrete or asphalt.

FAQ

Inground Pools Questions, Answered

Common questions about inground pools around Macomb County and the rest of Metro Detroit. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (877) 633-5773

How much does inground pool installation cost?
Size and depth drive the price, along with the finish, the coping and tile, the deck and any heater. The ground and the access for the dig matter too. Our free estimate starts with a site visit, and the price comes in writing. For market ranges, read what an inground pool costs in Michigan.
How long does it take to build an inground pool?
Most residential inground pools take about 8 to 12 weeks from permit approval to water. Weather and inspection dates can stretch that. Design and the permit review happen before that clock starts.
What is the difference between a gunite pool and a shotcrete pool?
Shotcrete is the broad term for concrete sprayed into place, and gunite is its dry-mix form. With gunite, the water is added at the nozzle, while wet-mix shotcrete is pumped to the nozzle already mixed. The trade association for sprayed concrete calls the two processes almost interchangeable today. We build pool shells with either one.
Who does the electrical work on a new pool?
A licensed electrician does the pool wiring under an electrical permit. That work includes the bonding, which ties the shell steel and the metal near the pool into one grid. Macomb Township, for one, requires an inspection of that bonding grid. On our builds, the electrical rough-in is inspected before backfill.
Do you renovate and resurface existing pools?
Yes. Pool renovation covers interior replastering, coping replacement, tile repair and deck resurfacing on existing pools. Equipment upgrades can be part of the same project. We look at the pool first and put the scope and the price in writing.
Can you build the patio and walkways along with the pool?
Yes. We take on whole-property hardscape packages, with the pool, the driveway, walkways, patios and walls in one build. One plan for the whole yard lets the grades and the drainage line up.
